HPC Supply Chain Innovation Lab attends 'Successful Financial Scaling up for SMEs' Event

HPC Research Fellow Jas Kalra attended the Professional Service Group (http://proservgroup.co.uk/) event 'Successful Financial Scaling Up for HPC' on the 23rd of January, 2018 at the Somerset Energy Innovation Centre (SEIC) in Bridgwater, Somerset. A number of SMEs already working for and aspiring to work for HPC megaproject attended this event. The event provided the SMEs a platform to raise their questions with Somerset Chamber of Commerce and Andy Flint of Natwest Bank to receive advice on managing the scaling-up process. A key part of the discussion was that SMEs should carefully think about what engaging with HPC means for their business. There needs to be a recognition that engaging with a project of the scale of HPC will have an impact on the existing operations. This needs to be taken into account during the planning process. In the past, companies who have been successful had developed teams separate from their existing opertions, which work exclusively on the HPC project.
